Will you sign a petition that we’ll deliver to the Senate President and Speaker of the Florida House, urging the Florida Legislature to actually stand up for patients and oppose a new MMJ tax in the form of THC caps?
To: Wilton Simpson, President, Florida Senate & Chris Sprowls, Speaker, Florida House
Mr. President & Mr. Speaker;
We, the undersigned patients, caregivers, physicians and patient advocates, formally request that you reconsider your decisions to allow bills that would cap THC levels in smokeable medical marijuana sold in Florida MMTCs.
While you may believe your intentions to be good, the practical result for patients in Florida will be what is in effect a gigantic tax on medical marijuana. When the legislature first implemented Amendment 2 in 2017, it was a stated goal of members of both chambers, and of both political parties, that medical cannabis be treated as medicine, and not subjected to sales or excise taxes.
We also believe that THC caps will have the opposite of its intended effect, and will quickly result in either patients smoking considerably more medical cannabis and/or being driven to the black market.
Please consider the wellbeing of the nearly half a million patients in this state and the will of the over 71% of Floridians who placed the right to medical marijuana in our state constitution - and block any legislation that would cap THC levels and place an exorbitant tax on patients in Florida.
Thank you,
