Statement of Need

This conference helped physicians expand and update existing knowledge and skills regarding ever-increasingly sophisticated diagnostic and practice guidelines, to share new ideas for evaluation and treatment techniques, and to increase the practitioner’s knowledge and ability to act and advocate for patients within the current medical legislative and regulatory environment.

AMMPA’s “The NFL and Medical Cannabis” Conference will be the first of its kind to merge two highly controversial and popular topics enabling a platform that will connect traditional western medicine with the potential of medical marijuana. We are proud to recognize Dr. Bennet Omalu as our Keynote Speaker. Dr. Omalu is known for his discovery of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, also known as CTE. From 2002 when Dr. Omalu first published his findings in the journal Neurosurgery, the NFL refused to publicly acknowledge the connection between CTE and concussions sustained in football. In 2015, his story was told in the award winning movie, “Concussion”, in which Dr. Omalu’s character was played by Will Smith. This film brought widespread public attention to CTE and brain injury in contact sports such as football.

The American Medical Marijuana Physicians Association is a membership driven association, focusing on providing physicians with the resources they need to safely and effectively utilize medical marijuana recommendations as an alternative treatment modality for their patients. Based out of Florida, AMMPA serves as a physician advocate helping to outline practice risks and benefits, educational requirements, compliance issues, and aggregates its members to allow for a unified voice representing all physicians currently interested in cannabinoid medicine. Our members are leaders from across the United States that provide expertise to the public regarding research, education, speaking engagements, seminars, and industry recommendations.
